About Me

My name is Armin Herbsthofer and I am 20 years old. I went to school in Linz/Austria. First I attended the Adalbert-Stifter-√úbungsvolksschule and afterwards Akademisches Gymnasium Linz, where I passed the final exam called "Matura" (general qualification for university entrance) in 2012 with great success.

After my military service I immediately began to study physics at the University of Vienna in March 2013 and at the end of the term I passed all the required exams as well as those that I could not take because of the military service.

My two passions are science and music. I started playing the piano at the age of 7 in the music school in Leonding near Linz. My teacher there was Helene Starzer. I still attend her classes now and then, if I can find the time. When I was around 16, I also took up the electric guitar and started playing in a band. That was also the time when I began composing. At first, only for the piano, but then also for our band and later on for larger ensembles and orchestra.

As I became more and more interested in the theory behind the magic of music, I started to take Jazz-Piano classes. My teacher, Peter Kreuzer, had lots of good advice for me and I still profit from it. Also my uncle, Dr. Wolfgang Schinagl, supported me in every possible way, be it by teaching me music theory or by introducing me to new kinds of music or new kinds of music making with DAW programs like Cubase.

As for composing, I am very much influenced by Bach, Tchaikovsky and also Wagner. The latter probably the most when it comes to writing scores for films. My favourite modern composers are Howard Shore, John Williams and Koji Kondo.
